You Can’t have it Both Ways.

There are all kinds of sayings expressing the impossibility of having something both ways.

For instance, you can’t have your cake and eat it too, or you can’t have the best of both worlds.

Maybe these sayings came from altering Scripture but the Bible has its own take on this.

It’s found in Romans 11:6.

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Works, in this case, are what Paul calls following the law. He also uses the word flesh to signify it.

Judaism is the first and only God-ordained religion that had a law to follow. The only thing that came from it was to show no man can keep it or be justified by it.

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Galatians 2:16

Christendom today loves to put people under the law, saying the Ten Commandments are what we need. This is bondage and condemnation that is why people are leaving their church services feeling empty and searching inside.

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

Romans 4:4

God’s remedy for works and the law is grace.

This grace can only be found by studying and understanding the Scriptures. Paul uses the word grace in his 13 epistles more than any other writer. There must be something to it.

Christs’ work is the only way that peace can occur in one’s walk.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 8:1

If you are trying to live according to the law you have fallen from grace.

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Galatians 5:4

When there is a choice to make, make it Grace.
