A Christian Nation

When you speak to some Christians they say that the United States is a Christian nation.
What constitutes a Christian nation?
Belief in God, which one? Belief in Christ, how?
Does it take a certain percentage of the population to make a nation Christian?

The founding fathers had issues about what they even believed.
Thomas Jefferson rewrote the New Testament leaving out Jesus’ miracles and resurrection.
There were numerous Masons that were involved in the formation of the country,
9 of the 56 signers of “The Declaration of Independence”, 33 of the 74 Generals of the Revolutionary War and 13 of the 39 signers of the Constitution were Masons.

The early settlers were from many religious backgrounds such as Puritans, Quakers and Anglicans to name a few.

Sure this country was founded on some Biblical principles, but does that make it a Christian nation?

Back in the Old Testament God dealt with a nation that came from the tribe of Jacob and was later named Israel.

He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
He hath not dealt so with any nation:
Psalm 147:19-20

Israel was given the oracles of God. Acts 7:38. Romans 3:2.

Today in this dispensation God is not dealing with a nation but a Body.

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
1 Corinthians 12:27

To be a part of this Body do you need to be a Jew or Gentile?
Do you need to belong to a particular religion?
Do you need to reside in a certain country?

The answer to all of these is NO.

For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
For the body is not one member, but many.
1 Corinthians 12:12-14

The Body of Christ is a spiritual entity that requires only faith to become a member. That faith is in the finished work of Jesus Christ, His death burial and resurrection.

This new body and the teaching of it can only be found in Paul’s epistles, Romans through Philemon.

It is far greater to be a member of this body than a citizen of any nation.
