The Sequel

Christ’s coming to earth is prophesied twice in the Bible.

The first time He came as a minister of the circumcision (Israel).

But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Matthew 15:24

Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers:

Romans 15:8

After His resurrection, Jesus told His disciples that all things had to be fulfilled in these three sections of Scripture.

And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Luke 24:44

The sequel of His return to the earth will be in judgment.

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,

To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

Jude 14-15

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

2 Peter 3:7

Most of Christendom has an understanding and agreement on these two events.

But what is missed is Christ’s other return, but it was not to the earth.

And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

Acts 9:3-4

This was to save Saul, later known as Paul and to give him instructions on what he must do.

And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Acts 9:6

A good Bible student will ask what is the need for Paul? Aren’t the apostles and disciples of Christ following through on the “Great Commission”?

Paul was given the revelation of the Mystery which is responsible for establishing the Body of Christ (a heavenly entity from a heavenly vision).

For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to youward:

How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

Ephesians 3:1-5

Most of Christendom takes the majority of their doctrine from Christ’s earthly ministry and His second (sequel) coming to earth.

This mistake leads to not understanding Christ’s heavenly ministry that was given to the Apostle Paul and the unsearchable riches of Christ. Unsearchable means they couldn’t be found in the Scriptures until they were revealed to the Apostle Paul.

Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Ephesians 3:8-9

If you are waiting for the sequel of Christ’s earthly return you are missing out on the gospel of the grace of God which is only found in Paul’s epistles.

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

It Is Finished!

In the Gospel of John, Jesus utters His last words on the cross “it is finished”. What was finished?

After His death, Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see if what Mary Magdalene had said was true. “They have taken the Lord” John 20:2a.

They thought is was finished also for after they visited the tomb, they went to their homes.

Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

(Believed what?. That He was taken.)

For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

John 20:8-9

Jesus saying it was finished was talking about His prophetic earthly ministry to Israel.

Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

Luke 18:31

There is so much more to come. His resurrection, Israel denies their Messiah, the Revelation of the Mystery to the Apostle Paul and Christ’s second coming to set up the earthly kingdom.

So what was finished at the cross was Christ’s death and earthly ministry, but what was accomplished by the cross was still to be made known.

In Scripture this is called further or progressive revelation.

Paul writes.

Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Colossians 2:14

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

Acts 20:24

And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

1 Corinthians 15:17

Christ’s earthly ministry to Israel was finished at His death on the cross.

But what was accomplished by the cross was revealed later. It was given to to the Apostle Paul and it’s called the Mystery.

Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
